Qualifications
The requirements/qualifications to serve on the Hempstead City Council are found in the Home Rule Charter as follows:
A Candidate for Mayor or Councilmember :

  1. Shall reside within the City
  2. Must be a citizen of the United States
  3. At least eighteen (18) years of age
  4. A qualified voter residing within the City for at least twelve (12) months prior to his/her election


If you would like to file an application for a place on the General Election ballot, please stop by the City Hall (1125 Austin St.)
to pick up a Candidate Packet from the City Secretary.
